Our mission is to heal the invisible wounds of Wildland Firefighters and their families through equine connection—hoofbeats to heart.
The Wildland Project (TWP) embodies a proactive approach to supporting Wildland Firefighters and their families, addressing the physical, emotional, and mental burdens they carry. We acknowledge the challenges within the current system and the toll it has taken. TWP is committed to changing the way things have been done—creating a more supportive, compassionate, and effective path forward.
The Wildland Project works to provide a personalized support system tailored to the unique needs of each firefighter and their family which is long deserved in the wildland community. We use the intuitive connection between humans and equines to create an immediate sense of emotional safety—the foundation for healing. In a space rooted in confidentiality, compassion, and care, individuals are supported by a team of professionals offering both traditional and alternative wellness services.
Our vision is to offer not only immediate care but also long-term, sustainable solutions that allow Wildland Firefighters to thrive throughout their careers, transition smoothly, and ultimately exit in a healthy, empowered way. Our responsibility to these dedicated individuals and their families is at the heart of this initiative.
"There comes a point where we need to stop just pulling people out of the water. We need to go upstream and find out why they're falling in."- Archbishop Desmond Tutu
