Equine Connection.

How does working with equines support Wildland Firefighters?

Equines provide a powerful approach to healing for individuals, especially those dealing with PTSD, anxiety, and trauma. Horses are attuned to human emotions, helping people recognize and regulate their feelings, while also fostering trust and emotional healing. Equines are bigger, faster, and often more determined than the human counterpart, it takes emotional awareness and trust to build a relationship.  Long story short, they are a piece to the puzzle, the starting place here at The Wildland Project.

  • Reduced Depression and Isolation
  • Supports Reducing PTSD and Trauma

The Wild Mustangs of The Wildland Project.

Wild mustangs are a powerful aspect of The Wildland Project. These horses, often facing their own challenges of rehabilitation and trust-building, mirror the struggles that Wildland Firefighters experience.

The mustangs' instinctual need for trust and connection creates a unique opportunity for mutual healing, offering firefighters a deeper understanding of themselves, their emotions, and their capacity for resilience. The process fosters empathy, patience, and emotional awareness, while also giving the mustangs a second chance at life.

We are proud to work alongside a local nonprofit organization who specialize in surrendered mustangs and focus on rehabilitation, retraining, and adoption of these horses.
